X Xandal by Aromatix X French Avenue takes Van by Rhum by Lorenzo Pazzaglia as its reference, stacking multiple vanillas with rum, chocolate and darker woods. Chocolate truffle and patchouli make the center heavier, whereas caramel, tonka and agarwood deepen the finish instead of letting the vanilla turn airy. Think less vanilla frosting and more rum-soaked vanilla extract poured over dark chocolate.
Top: madagascar vanilla, bourbon vanilla, vanilla caviar
Middle: vanilla, chocolate truffle, patchouli, rum, jasmine
Base: vanilla absolute, tonka bean, caramel, agarwood
Madagascar vanilla, bourbon vanilla and vanilla caviar hit all at once, rich enough to smell almost like concentrated extract. Rum and chocolate truffle darken the middle while patchouli and oud pull the caramel-tonka drydown toward something deeper than a simple bakery scent.
X Xandal has serious presence, throwing about 4-6 feet for the first three hours before tightening into a dense vanilla-rum trail. Longevity reaches roughly 9-11 hours, with caramel, tonka and oud holding deep into the drydown.
Cold weather is made for X Xandal, so fall and winter nights are its strongest setting. Dessert outings, cocktail bars and intimate dinners match the wall of vanilla, while rum, patchouli and oud keep the gourmand comfortably unisex.
