Faris Al Arab by Maison Asrar channels the plush amber mood of Blonde Amber by Clive Christian through cherry-like liqueur, vanilla and rich woods. Sugar cane makes Faris Al Arab sweeter through the center, and labdanum adds a darker resinous finish. This version keeps the luxurious amber character but leans more obviously boozy and gourmand.
Top: oriental notes, cherry liquor, cashmere wood, vanilla
Middle: amber, sugar cane, cedarwood
Base: sandalwood, tonka bean, labdanum, musk
Cherry liqueur and vanilla feel dark and syrupy at first, cushioned by cashmere wood rather than bright fruit. Amber and sugar cane make the heart glow warmer, then sandalwood, tonka and labdanum settle into a resinous, almost lacquered finish.
Faris Al Arab arrives with a rich boozy sweetness that carries confidently, then gradually deepens into amber, woods and resin. It has the stamina for a full evening, with sandalwood, tonka and labdanum making the late drydown feel warm and polished.
Faris Al Arab is at its best in fall and winter after dark, especially formal dinners, lounges, upscale dates and holiday events. It is unisex, but the deep amber, cherry liqueur and woods give it a mature, opulent presence.
